Nebraska benefits from a variety of people at the table when it comes to guiding our school system. I’m running for the State Board of Education to ensure students and teachers receive the resources and support they need to be successful and I believe my experiences as a single, working parent will allow me to advocate for the real-world importance of K-12 education. I intend to be a collaborative board member and represent the diverse needs of Omaha’s District 4.

About Liz

Liz Renner is a working parent running to represent District 4 in Nebraska’s State Board of Education. Born and raised in Omaha, Liz has lived in the Dundee neighborhood for 19 years. She is a seasoned communications professional who’s worked for women-owned businesses and public universities and now, as an independent contractor.

Liz values all levels of education and learning. She earned a master’s degree in American History from New York University and went on to work in documentary filmmaking, focusing on historical stories, including SCHOOL: The Story of American Public Education. Most recently she worked on the Nebraska Loves Public Schools campaign where she researched, produced, and shared the stories of Nebraska’s public schools. This experience ignited her passion to advocate for students and educators.

As a parent, she has dedicated volunteer time to her daughter’s schools — as a library assistant, room parent, and chairing the school yearbook committee. Liz currently works as an independent writer and producer. She resides in midtown Omaha with her daughter, a middle school student in the Omaha Public Schools district, and their dog, Wednesday.

My Priorities.

As a documentary producer I have seen the positive impact public education has had on our communities historically and continues to have today. That knowledge, as well as my personal experience with private schools and homeschooling, compels me to be a strong advocate for the success of Nebraska’s students and our educators.
